CORNERS. RAIN. NON-FLAT.
Although the stage today to Amiens was reported to be flat, it was actually up and down all day. And not unly up and down, but lots of tight corners to negotiate too. Poor weather also ensured it was far from easy, making the surface like an ice rink at times. On top of that strong winds made for a nervous bunch throughout the 189.5 km. In Vossi’s own words “it was a pretty unpleasant stage”. You can see from his face when back in the bus he’s pretty happy to get that one done.
In the process of winning today, André Greipel overtook Jan Ullrich’s German record total of Tour stage wins, giving Germany 3 wins from 5 on this year’s tour – and the second for Greipel. Vossi reassures us all that the Germans are making the most of the flatter stages – once the gradient goes up they will let the rest of the world have a chance at a stage win.
