Stage 2: Utrecht > Zélande #AllezVossi

As the riders rolled out of Utrecht this afternoon there was brilliant sunshine.  However a brief chat at the BORA – ARGON 18 team bus before the departure revealed the riders were nervous –  expecting strong winds and rain as the route headed out towards the coast via Rotterdam.

They covered the relatively short stage of 166 km flat stage in good time, with a tail wind pushing them along at a rapid pace.  Vossi’s team mate Jan Barta managed to get into the main break of the day, but they were reeled in well before the end, guaranteeing a bunch gallop.  In the end Andre ‘Gorilla‘ Greipel prevailed, his victory creating a new German record of winning stages in 5 consecutive Tours.

In the end, Vossi and his teammates were content to get to the end without any major incidents,  happy to put this stage behind them on what could have been a dramatic day had the weather been as bad as was initially feared.  Vossi, at least, was pleased for André Greipel – who is also from his home town of Rostock.  Overall a great day for German cycling.

Tomorrow’s stage finishes on the famous Mur de Hoy climb for the first time in the Tour’s history.  Promises to be an explosive stage.
