NZ track cyclist, Alison Shanks, retires

Alison’s career has been glittered with a World Championship, Commonwealth Games Gold and World Cup victories.

This is what she said on Facebook today:

“Announcing my retirement today has been a tough decision, but the right one. It has been an incredible journey for Craig and I but we have always been about striving to be better. I know I can’t give my absolute best physically and mentally anymore so it’s time to find a new challenge and start a new chapter. There will always be “another race” as the cycling world carries on but in every athletes career there has to be one final finish line and I’ve reached mine. The places I’ve been and ultimately you guys, the people I’ve meet along the way will be cherished forever. Thank you everyone for your support it’s been a super fun journey. I will still be out on my Avanti Bikes, maybe just a few more ‘coffee rides’ in there so look forward to seeing lots of you around the cycling world.”
