Stage 6 turned out to be a classic flat sprint stage and another eventful day for BORA - ARGON 18. Jan Barta escaped early in the day and together with Yukiya Arashiro (Lampre-Merida) built up a gap of 5:30 at its maximum. However the sprinters teams were always in control and the gap was eliminated comfortably with 35KM to go.
But the fun was far from over for the BORA - ARGON 18 boys. With designated sprinter Sam Bennett still suffering the effects of his Stage One chute, his leadout man Shane Archbold was given sprinting duties. Shane duly obliged with an incredible top ten finish. Shane is enjoying the responsibility of sprinting in Sam's absence, but believes the experience of contesting the sprints will in the end benefit Sam too - as he discovers more about where Sam needs to position himself to stay out of trouble and mix it with the other sprinters.
Another brave ride from Sam Bennett meant he once again made it within the time limit - finishing 198th on the road, equal on time with Michael Morkov. Sam therefore maintains 197th place on General Classement. But Shane says Sam's health is improving daily, which is the best news of all for BORA - ARGON 18, who look forward to having their main sprinter back inaction soon.
