An eventful first stage at Le Tour for BORA - ARGON 18's Patrick Konrad. Teammate Paul Voss decided to go on the early attack, leading the ay through the 2 4th category climbs early in the stage to secure the the polka dot King of the Mountains jersey.
With contrasting fortunes Patrik's other teammate, Ireland's Sam Bennett had to go to hospital following the crash in the final 500m that held up some of the riders. Sam needs to undergo x-rays this evening to better understand the extent of injuries which are understood to include damage to his collarbone and the little finger of his right hand.
Overall though, despite the mixed emotions of happiness for Vossi and sadness for Samy, Koni is relieved to get through the first stage and is looking forward to Stage 2 already.
