Team BORA - ARGON 18's GC rider Patrick Konrad of Austria was more at home in the hills of Stage 5 than he has been on the early flat sprinter's stages of this year's Tour de France.
The sun came out today on the 216KM stage from Limoges > Le Lioran. As the road went up, for the six categorised climbs, so too went the temperature. The roads were dirty too following the rain of recent days, meaning Koni had earned himself a nice "tan" by the time he arrived back at the team hotel.
So intense was the heat that the tar of the roads softened, meaning the final three descents of the day were especially dangerous and required great skill and caution to navigate safely.
Another day of action for Koni's team, with team mate Bartosz Huzarski in the long breakaway, and finally coming him in 6th position. Koni himself ended the day in 45th place in a little group that came in just 10:18 behind the stage winner Greg Van Avermaet.
