L'Isle-Jourdain > Lac de Payolle was the stage that took the 2016 Tour into the high Pyrenees. The 162.5KM stage was all about the final climb of the day - the Category 4 Col d'Aspin. The 12KM climb topped out at 1490M - an average gradient of 6.5%.
Pierre-Luc Périchon, Dan's teammate at Fortuneo-Vital Concept made it into the 29 man break of the day, from which Steve Cummings would eventually win the stage.
Today was a very different kind of day from yesterday's top 3 sprint finale. Dan came home today at the opposite end of the race, safely in the grupetto with the rest of the designated sprinters 21:05 down on the leader.
A tough day today for the fastmen, especially with high temperatures too, with plenty more hills to come tomorrow - five to be precise. Keeping hydrated and well fed will be a priority tomorrow.
