We had a little bit of fun on Twitter this week with the creation of #cyclistfoods hastag that was trending on Wednesday evening, and wanted to share some of the best ones with you. If you find these unpalatable then feel free to bombard @joeearley with abuse for planting the seed during an especially painful period of “inane banter”. We were passing time debating if Pat McQuorn had only wanted Contador banned for undermining his vegetarian food empire by promoting steak, and how Russian fish oligarch Igor Makerelov had intervened in the UCI Presidential campaign backing Brian Cook’s son, to oust this evil faux meat loving dictator.
Anyway, enjoy the nonsense…here are some of our favourites that still make us snigger….
We kicked-off with Greg Lemon – earning a RT from those lovely people @lemondbikes.
The healthy option – Sandy Caesar Salad – @gibby76 of course made with Marianne Cos Lettuce.
For pre-ride carbo-loading, it has to be Fabian Carbonara, Bjarne Rice or Pippo Potato.
And was it Pizza Sagan or Pitta Sagan – @splavid_datrick ?
Don’t want to go overboard, so maybe just a quick Luis Leon Sandwich – @_Si_Bradley or a Samuel Sandwich -@ADelicious1. Even a Marco Panini -@DScaper. Reckon you’ve earned your Victoria Sponge Pendleton, some Lauren Figrolls, or maybe a slice of Flap-Jacques Anquetil. Need chocolate? then look no further than Marcel KitKat or a Thomas Double-Decker – @alanhall. Or some Laurens Ten Jam – @CodeColony and Jam Ullrich – @DavidpMallon on some Baden Cookies – @eva_DP.
Of course you’re gonna need a coffee – so why not go with Claudio Cappuccino – @GironaCycling.
Post Ride Reward
You’ve got in from your ride and its time to indulge yourself. Maybe Greame O’Brie washed down with a bit of Richie Port? What about Camembert Grabsche or Edam Hansen – @BroomWagonBlog. Or if you are still hungry just go for the whole Chris Cheeseboardman and a bit of Garlic Bread Clancy? Or if you fancy something sweet, maybe go for Sean Jelly – @McNurse and ice cream from Edvald Boasson Haagen-Dazs – @deekoboy.
And to drink – some Cadel Evians – @ffflow. Or how about some Robbie McEwans Lager, or maybe Marco PinotGrigio.
For our readers in France, how about this unlikely couple of Emma Poulet – @benatkins_uk avec Ian Canard.
Mr and Mrs National Champion – Matt Hammeier and Nikki Haggis – maybe with a bit of Stuey O’Gravy – @AntBeal
UK brothers Bean Downing and Mussels Downing anyone? Mmmm, a tasty twosome.
For our German friends, we all appreciate your deep love of the sausage (other national stereotypes are available upon request) – so here for your delectation we present Bratwurst Wiggins, Mathias Frankfurter and Mario Cipollata – @Maff_Felstead
Apologies for the ones we’ve missed – there were just too many – go and check them out: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23cyclistfoods

Mark Cavendish’s welcome return to victory has led to calls for the Briton to be selected for the Tour de France, including the #CavToTheTour push on Twitter. There is a considerable emotional appeal to him taking part, but is it practical?
