CANYON//SRAM Racing will be part of the second race of the UCI Women's WorldTour this Saturday 11 March at Ronde van Drenthe. The Dutch cobbled race will see a change in roster with Elena Cecchini and Trixi Worrack being joined by Hannah Barnes, Lisa Brennauer, Barbara Guarischi and Mieke Kröger.
Trixi Worrack who was third in last year's race is expecting a similarly tough race. "This race is always hard, there's the sections of cobbles, the climbs, often the weather is really bad, and the peloton is hungry for early season results. Last year I was in the winning break that formed on the last cobblestone section. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a similar situation this year."
The 152km race, one of the longest on the women's calendar, has seven cobbled sections and three times ascending the short but steep VAMberg climb. Barbara Guarischi, who missed last year's race with a fractured shoulder believes the team can produce a good result on Saturday.
"Last year I was sad to miss this race, it is one of my favourites. It has a few sections of cobblestones, usually strong winds, often rain, I love it! To win this race you have to a good team around you, be hungry for the win and you also have to have a little bit of luck. I feel the atmosphere in our team is really high and that we worked together well in the first races this season so I am sure that a victory for us is close. I want it and I believe in it!"
Racing starts at 11:15 and can be followed online with #RondevanDrenthe and #UCIWWT. The same roster for CANYON//SRAM Racing will race again the following day, Sunday 12 March at Drentse Acht van Westervald.
